October is Children's Month in Ireland
Children's Month in Ireland is October and October 2009 is now over. But there's loads to do with the family across the country. Monkeyshine Theatre is a touring theatre company that produces professional theatre for audiences of all ages. The company aims to create original and innovative theatre experiences with the purpose of challenging, stimulating and entertaining both children and adults. The company fuses diverse performance techniques that include clowning, dance, puppetry and circus to create their own unusual and dynamic brand of theatre.

Nomad Tour

In November 2009, Moneyshine begins an exciting co-production with Nomad Theatre Network. The Gift, written by Kareen Pennefather, Monkeshine's artistic director, will tour to Droichead Arts Centre, Roscommon Arts Centre, Backstage Theatre, An Tain in Dundlak, the Riverbank in Newbridge and The Ramor Theatre in Virginia, Co Cavan. The show is directed by Eoin Lynch and stars Clare Barrett and Andy Blaikie. Lighting design is by Michael Cummins and original music is composed by Martin Brunsden.     Aisling Festival

    Aisling is a week long children's arts festival which takes place in Longford in the heart of the midlands every year in the week leading into the October bank holiday weekend. Now in its twelfth year, the festival has grown in strength and popularity bringing the arts in all its forms to the children of County Longford.

    The 2009 Aisling festival will run from Sunday 18th to Saturday 24th October 2009 with a full programme, of theatre shows and workshops in every art-form imaginable, kicking off with a fun filled family open day which is completely free of charge.

    Baboró

    Baboró International Arts Festival for Children is Ireland's flagship international arts festival devoted exclusively to children and families.

    In 2009 we celebrate 13 years of presenting a multidisciplinary arts festival to thousands of children in Ireland from our base in Galway.

    Children's Book Festival

    Now in its nineteenth consecutive year, the national Children's Book Festival has established itself as the foremost celebration of children's books and reading in Ireland. With over 1,600 events taking place in 2008, it is by far the largest and most dynamic festival of its kind in the country. Following the success of last year's programme, the festival will again run for the entire month of October in 2009.

    From the 1st - 31st a non-stop series of author readings, illustrator workshops, storytelling sessions, competitions, quizzes and countless other activities will be taking place in libraries, schools, bookstores and art-centers across the island of Ireland, as festival fever takes hold!

    Flip Flop

    Flip Flop is Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown's own festival of theatre for children, produced by Pavilion Theatre on behalf of DLR County Council. This year's festival includes a wild balloon tamer; a children's operetta about the Pied Piper; a toe-tapping interactive traditional music and dance 'Session'; an outdoor Pig and a hedgehog, or at least a Hedge Called Hog, and Something Else. Plus workshops in libraries throughout the county, and a writing programme for children by children. We hope that this October you will help us make this festival the best Flip Flop ever.

    Leanbh Art's Festival for Children

    Leanbh Arts Festival now in its 6th year has become an established part of Drogheda's Annual Festival Calendar. Six days of plays, puppetry, dance, music, exhibitions and workshops for children of all ages.

    RoolaBoola Children's Arts Festival

    RoolaBoola Children's Arts Festival takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, Co Mayo. It is one of the leading children's arts festivals in Ireland. It features a selection of the highest calibre international children's theatre, music and dance shows as well as other arts events, including children's books readings, visual art exhibitions, street performances and a multitude of hands-on arts workshops in a range of media for children and their families. RoolaBoola takes place annually in the week leading up to and including the bank holiday weekend at the end of October. It is the jewel in the crown in relation to arts activities for children at the Linenhall Arts Centre!
